From L.A. to Rome...gluten free all the way!

Sulmona Mercato {Let's go shopping!}

My morning starts with breakfast in the courtyard, checking e-mails and going over plans with my cousin(s) for the day.  Davide always makes the best cappuccino con latte di soya (with soy milk), and puts together a great tray of g-free goodies!  And, his mother-in-law Franca gave me the recipe to bake Amaretti cookies (left) - made with almond flour - yummy!

This morning, I'm going to Conad, the local supermerato to do a bit of shopping,  and to the outdoor mercato in Piazza Garibaldi.  Andiamo!

I like to start on the fresh produce side of the market {always try to stay on the periphery of grocery stores, if you know what I mean}.

Always stop to buy a piece of sheep's milk formaggio.

Here I buy a slice of pecorino for snack time: Tre P

I make my way over to the "Senza Glutine" section:

Conad carries all the basics.

Now, let's check-out the mercato in Piazza Garibaldi.

This is the fishmonger of Sulmona, Gigi:

The fish shop has the best fish!

 gamberetti freschi!

Love discovering new pesci from the Adriatic Sea...

On Saturday mornings the piazza is full of merchants - fun, fun, fun!  Nonna sells herbs & veggies, hers is the best selection.

These tomatoes rock in salads!

Fiori di Zucca

Nonna's fresh herbs...

Last, but far from least, more carciofi porn - triple swoon.

Buon appetito!

As they say in Sulmona: A domani!
